About
Where this came from
Strategic Training is the training philosophy of Onsite Training Australia. It was written by Nathan Corbett out of years of delivering training on operational sites — mines, workshops, control rooms — where the difference between someone who has been told a procedure and someone who genuinely understands the work is not academic.
The problem it solves
Most workplace training is delivered the way school was: someone knowledgeable stands at the front and transmits. It is efficient to schedule, easy to document, and it produces people who can pass the assessment and still freeze the first time the situation doesn't match the slide.
The strategic approach inverts the sequence. Coach first — build rapport and understand where the learner actually is. Then mentor, showing rather than telling. Then facilitate, asking the questions that let them reach the answer themselves. Train last, and only where there is genuinely no way for them to reason toward it.
It takes longer in the first hour and much less time over a career, because capability the learner built themselves doesn't need re-teaching every time the crew changes.
Why it's free
Because it works better when more people use it, and because the people who find it useful tend to be the people who eventually want the qualification that goes with it. There is no catch and no account — read the eight modules without giving us anything. The ebook asks for an email because that is the one thing we'd like in return.
Who delivers the courses
The nationally recognised training behind this material is delivered by Onsite Training Australia, the trading name of Emerging Leadership Institute, RTO 46082. Courses run publicly in Mackay, Moranbah, Townsville, Brisbane, Muswellbrook and elsewhere, and privately at client sites across Australia.
