Practice script

Calm your farm

For when a learner is not following your process, but is still inside what the group agreed to. The four checks are the script — safe, compliant, whose problem is this, come back to it. The lines underneath are there to support them, not to be read out.

Step 1 of 4

Are they safe?

The first gate, and the only one that justifies stopping someone mid-task without thinking about it. Ask it before anything else.

  • Ask yourself

Is anyone at risk right now — them, me, or anyone else around them?

Risk, not untidiness. You are looking for someone who could get hurt, not someone doing it in an order you wouldn't have picked.

  • If the answer is no

Stop. Hands off it and come back to me.

Short and flat. This is the one moment in the whole script where you interrupt without softening it, and it should sound different from everything else you say.

  • Then, once it's safe

Talk me through what you were about to do there.

Even here you go back to a question. Stopping them was the safety call; teaching still happens the same way.

Watch for — If it is genuinely unsafe, none of the rest of this applies. Calm your farm is for the times it is not.

A practice aid for trainers and assessors. It explains a delivery approach, not a compliance requirement, and is not a substitute for a training and assessment strategy, session plan or assessment tool.
